Falafel Pizza

Making this is the result of a delightful walk through Jersey City with Beck.  We were walking past a pizza shop with two words advertising the shop.  Written on the window: Pizza and Falafel.  I asked if she thought they actually made a falafel pizza and she didn’t know.  From there, things got brilliant.

Falafel Pizza

Ingredients:

-Falafel (You can Google a recipe or take the easy route like me and buy a make-at-home package from the store.  I chose not to fry mine and instead followed the baking instructions found here.  I made them a day in advance and they reheat very well.)
-Pita
-Hummus
-Minced Garlic
-Sliced tomato
-Lemon juice
-Feta (crumbled)
-Tahini (optional)

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

On a cookie sheet place a pita down (as your “crust”).  The first time I made these, I covered the top of the pita with garlic and olive oil.  It was good, but I’d recommend spreading hummus instead.  Top with sliced tomato, crumbled or sliced falafel and feta.

Cook for 10-15 minutes (or until slightly browned).  When they come out, drizzle the pizza with lemon juice and tahini.

I only have one picture of this creation, which is not impressive, but does remind me of how delicious this was!

Infinite Variety: Part 1

This weekend I made a quick trip to Jersey City and NYC.  Stopping Jersey City meant sharing some swug wuvin’ with some of my favorite gals (and dinner at Skinner’s Loft.  If you are in Jersey City, eat there!) and a night of laughter (and tears).  It’s wonderful how good friends fill your soul.

On Sunday, Becky and I headed in to NYC to view Infinite Variety and Quilt Masterworks both shows presented by the American Folk Art Museum.

Infinite Variety was amazing and I’ll cover some of the quilts I saw there in the next few posts.

Infinite Variety: Room from entrance

The 650+ quilts were set up in a simple but breathtaking style.  Set up in smaller rounds to mimic the idea that most quilts were created in a community setting, this exhibit acknowledged the beauty of the space it was in and allowed the beautiful artwork evident in the quilts to shine.

Infinite Variety: Quilts in round

The lighting did a wonderful job highlighting the patterns, too.

I also enjoyed the display towards the back of the room that included a wall of quilts.

It was really great to see so many styles of block making, appliqué and quilting in one space.

Ok, one more for today:

Can’t wait until I blog them all?  Here’s a link to my pictures

Baby quilt for Izzy

Izzy's Quilt!

Another team quilt.  Bex made the top with fabrics I picked up at Purl.  This was actually her first time quilting so she had the joy of purchasing a rotary cutter and mat!  I love tools.

This was also one of first things I used a walking foot to quilt.  I normally baste my quilts with safety pins, and found quilting with straight lines very soothing.

Back

I like including a “patch” with info about who the quilt is for/who made it.  Also- the back!  I love this print.

It’s been Izzy’s favorite thing to drool on since the day she got it, so it’s a success!  According to her mama, they don’t go anywhere without it!

This is a third post- I’m going to add pictures of things I’ve made over the years so I can have my own archive of awesomeness.

Baby quilt for Bobby

Bobby Quilt 1

Here’s a team effort.  Bex made the top (actually she made two tops and the first was lost in the mail! so she was a rock star and made a second top…) and I sandwiched, quilted and bound it.

Bobby Quilt 2

We presented it to Bobby once his mom and dad were able to bring their little miracle home.  He is amazing!
