I got this e-mail from my cousin Leigh as a follow-up to a pirate-themed graduation party we are planning.
I love my family.
I made a quilt for my brother and his wife. It was intended to be a Christmas gift with input. So on the day after Thanksgiving last year, we went to a fabric shop so they could pick out some fabrics.

I took the fabric home, washed it and then got really crazy. I split the fabric in half and discharged one set and left the other in its original state (if you want to do this, please ask me about it- I read a ton of tutorials before I started). Then I cut triangles. My pattern was inspired by Wise Craft’s discharging success, only on a larger scale.

See, I was making a king-sized quilt. Oh who am I kidding. Words don’t do it justice. Here’s pictures.
This is whole quilt. I was working on sandwiching and basting it when I took this shot.
Look closely at the above and you can see that the two triangles that make up each small square are actually the same fabric. The lighter colored triangles are from the fabric I discharged.
The small squares were pieced using a serger, then sewn into long strips (again on the serger). I would work through one edge of the diamond pattern at a time (or quarters of the top) then rejoice for a bit and pat myself on the back before moving on to the next one.
It’s such a beautiful pattern! And I’m so proud of it.
I quilted this by hand- over the course of watching most of the second season of Dexter. The hand quilting was done with knots. I finished it in March (April?), long after Christmas. Thank goodness for understanding (and appreciative!) family.
I don’t have any pictures of the final product, perhaps I’ll take some and update this post one day!
This is a sixth post- I’m going to add pictures of things I’ve made over the years so I can have my own archive of awesomeness.
