Living within a community is an intentional act. For many, it’s a sincere longing- to have a group of people you live with, work out conflict with, learn to love and go deeper with. I am a part of a community like that. A place (in space, not an actual house) where I am working out what it means to love and live this journey I am on with Jesus.
One of my favorite things that we do is host quarterly Love Feasts. It’s your typical church potluck-style meal that also includes worship, story telling and making a covenant. When folks decide to be intentional about living their lives with us in community, they are asked to make a public declaration about it. They stand before the group and are recommended by someone who knows them and then share why they want to live life with us. We listen and acknowledge and cheer and pray for them.

Community is not always easy. It’s not always successful. But it’s worth the effort, every time.
