People say we monkey around
My job is rather technical.  It involves databases and engineering…I’ll stop there, you’re already yawning.  But today, I received some paperwork for a project at a Zoo that made my afternoon: Specialty lighting!  For the Primates! Is it ok that I want to go to the zoo just to see the lighting??

I'm not going anywhere if there aren't magicians.
Last night.  I wish I had more proof of it than a picture, the business card for a magician and a chocolate nugget. Going to karaoke with friends has become a Tuesday night tradition.  Every week, we gather at a bar in Old City so I can sing and they can cheer me on (I have great friends) and we can all people watch. In the 5 months we’ve been going, not only have we become regulars, but...

Passport to...love?
I did it. I applied for a passport! Remember when I made this list? I’m still working my way through that list, and today, I checked number 11 off the list! The reason?  This road trip. Special thanks to Tony Q and the USPS for all your fine work!  And for having an awesome lobby.

Florence & the Machine on the Colbert Report →
jackiebakescakes: If you missed last night’s episode of the Colbert Report, it’s definitely worth finding on Hulu. All of it was amazing. But even if you did see it, you probably missed this extra song from Florence & the Machine, posted on Colbert’s website. Check out this performance of Cosmic Love. Not as chill-inducing as it was during Monday night’s concert, but still a gorgeous...

i could make that: tiny pocket tank sew-along part... →
icouldmakethat: (You can see all the sew-along posts here. Don’t worry, non-sewers! I’ll have other types of posts up during the sew-along too.) Hey, now we’re going to sew on the tiny pocket what gives this pattern its name. Here’s our little pocket piece: Now you’ll need to zig-zag stitch around… Great pocket tutorial!  The final stitching instructions are brilliant, can’t...

Haikus in contest
I won free tickets to the Philadelphia orchestra last week.  Love the Arts In Philly has a twitter feed where they regularly give away tickets in exchange for tweeting a phrase. So, I won tickets, but it turned out I couldn’t use them!  Well, really, I just wanted to keep my current Tuesday night commitment of karaoke with the ladies.  Tuesdays are currently one of my favorite days of the...

You're amazing but...: May 21, 2011: The Raptors... →
youreamazingbut: You’re amazing but… sadly the end of the world does not involve earthquakes that shake up zombie Raptors. Last week Coujo sent me this email: Also last night at potluck, we were talking about the end times that are supposedly happening on May 21. We were discussing the rapture and the Left… I love my friends. (and yes, Coujo is me!)

This Radiant City: Love Feast
Living within a community is an intentional act. For many, it’s a sincere longing- to have a group of people you live with, work out conflict with, learn to love and go deeper with. I am a part of a community like that. A place (in space, not an actual house) where I am working out what it means to love and live this journey I am on with Jesus. One of my favorite things that we do is host...

I found it on Google Reader!
Let’s plan a party!  Remember: I’ll chronicle things I want to try and you can chime in if you want to join me in creating one of them.  A craft/baking day will ensue and results published here. - Easter may be over for some, but confetti eggs transcend mainstream calendars! I made these streamers for a party last fall- let’s pull them out to decorate with. These would be awesome torches for...

About bread and doing something different
I made bread dough last Monday.  That’s nothing new, but the fact that I roasted two sweet potatoes at 7am so I could make the dough when I got home from work and bake it once I got back from a meeting feels noteworthy.  I can judge time! I woke up early enough to go for a (terrible) run, roast a sweet potato and still be at work by 8:30!  I biked home, made dough and scones, ate dinner,...

Cherri House Event
The Philly Modern Quilting Guild presented an evening with Cherri House.  I called my quilting friend G and her cute son Ollie and we made the trek out to the event. It was so inspiring.  Here’s a quick tour of the quilts she shared with us.  Most are in the book City Quilts.  (Alternate title for this post: A study in hair…) Cherri’s work is so beautiful...

When sewing and cats collide
We’re a three-cat apartment.  Our first cat, Lady, was on purpose- she had lived with me after being passed off by my sister-in-law.  Then my roommate found Gladys meowing beneath the other half of our twin.  Ditto with Louise 6 months later.  3 week old kittens that fit in the palm of your hand are tough to say no to, so 3 years later, we have the same amount of cats and rooms. Gladys...

Not giving up...
…on my dreams …on changing my body …carbs …on letting God be in charge …on getting back into daily runs …on finding someone to love …on giving up my sins It’s Holy week, so I’m reflecting on my Lenten journey this year.  Here’s something I wrote during the first few days on Lent.
